Eight of the largest energy companies in Europe focusing alliance to promote clean energy in the Old World with the ultimate aim of establishing binding targets by 2030 to reduce emissions, renewable energy and energy efficiency.
According to information from the website EurActiv, the informal alliance itself as a “loose coalition of energy companies with a progressive approach that share common views on the rapid reform of the energy system.”
Members of the alliance are the following companies: Acciona (Spain), DONG Energy (Denmark), EDP (Portugal), Eneco (Netherlands), EWE (Germany), DEH(Greece), Sorgenia (Italy) and SSE (UK).
The Road Map of the EU last year for a low carbon economy by 2050 provides for reductions in greenhouse gas emissions between 80-95% target required according to scientists to prevent the increase in average global temperature by 2 degrees Celsius and global warming.
In this context, the EU proposed in 2030 as a higher share of technologies, low carbon energy mix by 75 to 85%.
